Horse Farms For Sale in PA

Philadelphia is known for its Revolutionary War-era historical sites like Valley Forge, its large cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, its farming regions, some occupied by the Amish, and a (once)-strong industrial history.

With equally large swaths of cities and towns as fields and mountains, Pennsylvania is a rich and varied state, as well as a worthy travel destination. Pennsylvania is bordered by the states of New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Ohio.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is a geographically diverse state with a Great Lake on one shore and a major seaport on the other. The climate of Pennsylvania is pleasant, with cold, often snowy winters, mild to hot, humid summers, and gorgeous green springtimes, and most notably, spectacular displays of colorful autumn foliage.

A study released in the summer of 2003 by Penn State University shows that Pennsylvania's horse industry is massive and thriving, contributing big bucks to the state economy. And it's preserving more than a million acres of state farmland.

$8.2 billion or 18 percent of agribusiness sales, the state's largest industry, can be attributed to horses. The $8.2 billion refers to investments including land, buildings, machinery, etc., and does not include the value of the horses themselves, an additional $1.3 billion.

The state is home to more than 220,000 horses.

The study shows the total value of Pennsylvania's horses more than doubled since 1990, from $620 million to $1.3 billion. The industry's total investment in land, horses, buildings, trucks, trailers, tack and other assets, is a whopping $9.5 billion.

Not included in the study was money spent by residents of other states and countries who come to Pennsylvania to ride or compete. The Pennsylvania National Horse Show estimates that out of state competitors spend $40 million each year on hotels, meals, shopping, and more during that show alone.

Among the study's most interesting findings is that the amount of land devoted to horses totals 1,140,000 acres, valued at $4.8 billion.

Rare 6A Equestrian Estate in the heart of Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania

Blue Bell, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

***New Price***An opportunity to own 6+ acres in highly desirable Gwynedd Valley. Penlyn Farm combines a classic, refined approach to living with all of the conveniences of modern life. The 6 acres are nestled in the award winning Wissahickon School District. This equestrian estate was designed by renowned Philadelphia architect Edmund B. Gilchrist. The grounds are park-like with mature hardwood trees, scenic views and a gazebo for summer outside parties. For those who appreciate timeless traditional elegance, Penlyn Farm is a stately Georgian revival manor home and has retained many of it’s beautiful original details without sacrificing modern amenities. Built in 1939 the property has only witnessed 2 owners in 82 years. The residence boasts 7 bedrooms, 5 full bathrooms, 2 half baths, a linen room, a cedar room, a butler’s kitchen, a trophy room along with the other standard rooms found in estate homes. Completing this equestrian estate is a renovated bank barn for horses, a regulation dressage ring, and post and rail fenced pastures. When entering the oversized foyer you will instantly be drawn to the details in this house: high ceilings, the rich patina on the hardwood floors, a grand staircase, strategic room layouts, superb classic woodworking, detailed moldings, decorative fireplaces, gorgeous light and bathroom fixtures, and doors and windows arranged to enhance your view of the bucolic grounds. Much like many houses found in Chestnut Hill and the Mt. Airy sections of Philadelphia that Gilchrist designed, he created rooms with beautiful windows and French doors to bring in natural light and nature from every angle. Gilchrist used exterior metals and metal designs to enhance his exterior architectural revival styles. This property is a 1 of kind estate, created specifically for entertaining and relaxing. If you have always wanted to bring your horses home, this is a horse enthusiast’s dream. Eight big matted box stalls, a feed room, a tack room, a H/C wash stall with heat lamps, a large lighted outdoor ring, ten grass or “dry” pasture choices and run-in sheds complete the equestrian side of the property. Hacking out to two local indoor rings, Horseways trails, Wissahickon Watershed trails, and Pennlyn Woods, is as simple as ride out and ride in. Preserving the privacy and peaceful enjoyment of nature's undisturbed beauty on this estate is a Conservation Easement. Location, location, location: this property is close to so many amenities it is too numerous to mention all of them. A sampling of the surrounding area: Bluestone, Cedarbrook and Blue Bell Country Clubs, Germantown Academy, Gwynedd Mercy Academy, Ambler and local favorite restaurants, Gwynedd Valley Septa R5 train line to Center City Philadelphia, Wings Field Airport, Routes 309, 476, 202, Starbucks, Trader Joe's and so much more.
