The state of Nebraska is located on the Great Plains of the Midwestern United States. Nebraska, referred to as the Cornhusker State, is known for its production of corn (ranked third in the country), love of college football, and status of being home to the world’s largest porch swing. The capital of Nebraska is Lincoln and the state’s largest city is Omaha, located on the Missouri River.

As a state once considered part of the Great American Desert, Nebraska is now a top farming and ranching state. Agriculture is the heart of Nebraska as it’s the state’s leading industry. Agriculture contributes over $25 billion to the state annually and is a significant provider of jobs for Nebraskans.

One of the most interesting things about Nebraska is the difference between the eastern half and the western half of the state. While the entire state experiences seasonal variations in terms of temperature and precipitation, each half has its own major climate. The western half of the state has a semi-arid climate while the eastern half has a humid continental climate. To add to their differences, while the eastern half observes the Central Time Zone, the western half recognizes the Mountain Time Zone.
