Luxury Equestrian Estate in California
Woodside, San Mateo County, California
Personal surroundings are more paramount than ever before: space, security, and seclusion–once viewed as ultimate luxuries–are now revered as absolute necessities. Built-in 2006 with exacting precision and uncompromising attention to detail, Frog Creek ideally caters to the new normal: the ultimate in craftsmanship and California lifestyle, and set amid a sprawling and private enclave in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Located just two miles from the village of Woodside, yet a world away, the virtually level and gated 12+ acre estate offers room for children to grow, learn, and play, and spaces for adults to work, exercise, and relax amid natural wilderness and open sky. From large-scale entertaining to everyday family living, this modern estate is abundant with customized amenities rarely found. No expense was spared in its creation. No opportunity for tranquility and active lifestyle amenities was bypassed.
Each space flows seamlessly into the next—from the entrance hall to the open living room to the limestone patio outside the French doors, and then from the main residence to the pool house to the tennis court to the horse barn just beyond. There is an incredible synergy between inside and out, a connection between every element. With wall-to-wall French doors and windows along the back of the main residence, you have a perfect view of the sun-drenched swimming pool and world-class equestrian arena. The wide green lawn rolls up from an oak tree allee to limestone patios and a shaded loggia just waiting for you to settle in with breakfast, a book, or a glass of wine.
Inside, every room evidences intention and integrity. Great care has been given even to behind-the-scenes detail. Every door and window in the house is solid wood, crafted in Germany. All the limestone that makes up the patio areas along the back of the house was imported from Turkey. The tiles on the roof were brought over from France. The limestone flooring, custom walnut cabinetry, and expansive rooms create a feeling of warmth and welcome. The grand entrance, open living room, formal dining room, and butler’s pantry were designed for entertaining.
While the main level of the residence maintains an outdoor focal point, with walls of windows and French doors, the lower level is an indoor hideaway. With a game room, a craft room, a wine cellar, a wet bar, and a movie theater that seats 11, there are a wealth of entertainment options for everyone.
The same is true outside, where a limestone path lined with lavender leads first to the pool house, which features not just the pool but a full kitchen with an open entertaining space. A wall of folding doors facing the pool can be completely retracted so the interior space flows right into the outdoor terrace beyond. Continue down the limestone path and you’ll come to the tennis court—with its own vine-covered terrace—and just beyond, the horse barn.
The stable has 6 generously-sized horse stalls each with its own sand walkouts. Every stall is equipped with automatic feeders and state-of-the-art stall mats designed for ergonomic equine support. A path leads directly from the arena to the wooded riding paths of the Woodside Trail Club.
Sequestered among leafy oaks near a burbling creek, it’s easy to forget that Frog Creek is situated in the heart of Silicon Valley, and just a short drive from San Francisco as well as nearby airports SFO and SJC. A haven of sunlight and serenity, it feels like it’s a world apart.
