Property description

Once part of a Huntington-owned tract, with an authentic Victorian farmhouse built in 1892 by Crockers, this is one of the last original California ranches. The previous owners resided here for a century, and in the past five years its house, barns and land have been lovingly cared for and restored by its current owner. In tune with the natural rhythms of the animals and the earth, you are restored as you spend time here. Vistas span 360 degrees over gently rolling rain-fed grasslands. Warm breezes steadily blow from the west. The land holds a profound Native American history, and contains rose quartz, which carries a high vibration for love. We are deeply honored to offer this ranch to the next family whom we hope will continue to steward it with care. Currently a sanctuary to a herd of wild and domestic horses, governed by a non-profit, all will be moving with the owner to a new location.

Details

Home Features

  • The 3-bedroom, 2-bath farmhouse features wrap around porches with 60+ miles views east and west beyond the property's expansive pastures, and lovingly remodeled kitchen and bathrooms. She's a durable old girl, brought back to young(er) life by her current owner. Built of old-growth redwood with varied hued wood floors throughout, the home features 14-foot ceilings, new lighting, a master bedroom suite paneled in original barn wood, and a glorious sun room with in-house laundry. A 1950s garage clad in tin includes a large shop. The sale includes county permits and finished plans for a second 1bd/1 ba house where the original carriage houses stood. Water and electricity run to all outbuildings. The well was completely refurbished in 2016, including new pump, two bladder tanks, a 2500-gallon storage tank, a reverse double osmosis filter, and an outlet to plug in a generator. In 2020, a 5-region mini-split heating and a/c system was installed, as was an above-ground solar mount with EV charger.

Lot Features

  • 99 acres of rolling grassland cut by a seasonal creek rich with spring wildflowers and tiny waterfalls. On a clear day you can see Mount Diablo to the west, often with a deep red sun setting behind it, and east as the grasslands give way to oaks and then the alpine of the western Sierra. A variety of trees dot the landscape, providing shade to the house and some areas of the pastures. The rocky soil drains winter rains well and naturally trims horses' barefoot hooves. It also provides fertile ground for Mediterranean crops from olives to grapes to roses. The large 6-raised bed garden and long summer yields a productive crop of tomatoes, zuchini and melons, among other delights, and is dotted with nectarine, apple and citrus trees. A three-coop, fully-fenced chicken run is currently home to a rescued flock of 2 roosters and 11 hens.

Horse Facility Features

  • There are two magnificent barns, the kind we don't build anymore. Their layers of red and yellow paint form a weathered tapestry you can't duplicate. The main barn can store more than 500 bales to its rafters with a run-in on one side and supply aisle on the other. Four large paddocks and three smaller pastures extend off this barn. The second barn feels like a small, sweet cathedral. It's interior platform surrounded by three run-ins is a magical place to hold group gatherings for special occasions surrounded by your animals. Water lines and faucets for troughs are available in every paddock and there are two large concrete troughs in the main pastures that are gravity fed from the well. Four steel pipe and galvanized metal roofed shelters in the main and north pastures provide shelter from the rain and sun.
